The Tairawhiti Complementary and Traditional Therapies Research Trust is a non-profit organisation that fosters and supports the development of a robust evidence base about the effectiveness of complementary and traditional therapies.

- To perform valid evidence-based research into the safety and efficacy of various complementary and traditional therapies
- To provide professional expertise and support to researchers in the field of complementary and traditional therapies
- To provide administrative support to research and researchers in the field of complementary and traditional therapies
- To provide financial support for evidence-based research into complementary and traditional therapies
- To provide evidence-based education and information about effective complementary and traditional therapies
- To promote a holistic concept of health based on the definition of health developed by the World Health Organisation and ‘Te whare tapa wha’, the four-sided house concept developed by Professor Mason Durie.
